Re July 5th. Yup. I watched a British gate guard pocket my precious (not expensive, but a precious gift) pocket knife when they insisted that it was illegal for me to carry such a thing in England. (I guess it was, but I didn't know that). I could either let "them" confiscate it, or they would call the real police on me. I was less than 24 hours from going home, so not much choice there. But when he POCKETED it, instead of putting it in the confiscate box... well I'll never go back to england again...and I tell this story to anyone that will listen.

Dear Lynn Johnston, It appears in your Lynn's Notes from July 4 - 5, 2012 you are trying to make light of the situation when your son pointed a plastic space gun at a security guard and the guard's overreaction. I remember police officers from my very early ages cautioning kids against pointing gun-like things at security guards or police officers, even as a joke. While a careful investigation may determine that the gun-like thing is actually a plastic toy, that won't be much consolation if your kid gets hurt or worse in the heat of the moment.
