Paul is right. There have been too many tragedies involving children and young teens pointing a "gun-like" object at a police officer and being shot themselves. It not only causes pain (or worse) to the young person and his/her family, but it very often ruins the life of the officer as well. I doubt that most of us could live easily with the knowledge that we had wounded or killed a child pointing a toy space gun.

The July 1 strip horrifies me, for reasons Liz would never understand. You see, when helium baloons are released into the air, they will frequently drift over the ocean before descending. Once there, they float around, resembling jellyfish, until a sea turtle eats them. This will prove fatal to the turtle, because unlike the untrue stories about rice at weddings killing pigeons, the balloon is not digestible.Molly S, Nova Scotia
I read the comment about Lynne carrying a toy in her handbag and sighed. She can do it easily but I cannot. The last time I flew on an international flight, there was a little girl in tears almost beside me. I could do nothing, say nothing, and all I wanted to do was hug and comfort - I saw a little girl in trouble. But, you see, I'm male, and therefore, despite being a father and married for 42 years, I am almost instantly a child molester if I interact with an unknown child. Those are the times when I hate modern society..it stops me from giving love where it is needed.Dr Tony Young
Oh for the days of pretty stones and shells and maybe a piece of mica that reflected such colors. Or even a snail...but not the litter of the inconsiderate beach bunnies and their groups who think so little of themselves that they think "someone gets paid to clean it up". As they say, Back in the day....Geri C New York
I'd like to think that Elly did more than simply sigh about shells and pretty stones yesterday. Not only should she have perhaps helped pick things up, it might have been a good idea to make sure the kids didn't cut themselves.Paul Jones, Saint John, New Brunswick
