I have learned that sarcastic comments said "in jest" are hurtful and meant that way on some level. A boss of mine once called them "humor with a hammer." That happened in my extended family when I was a child and the results are that as adults we are not close. It is not a good idea.
PatTough to be sarcastic, even funny, people take things too personally--unless you're a comedian or produce a comic strip - then it's like 'you can laugh, it's officially funny.' I've had to learn to back off. But I have a gentleman friend and we say everything and anything and laugh all the time about it. It's liberating.
BettyhereSarcastic comments can really hurt, whether or not the comments are true. It is a way to hide behind humor and lash out at someone at the same time. I have been on both the giving and receiving end of sarcastic "humor". It took a lot of time and effort, but I don't make comments like John's to my family and friends anymore. Life is a lot easier and more loving now.
